Dakota (girl)

• This one is just really unique and quite pretty. Not sure what it means, but pretty nothertheless.
• Dakota Jaymes I find this name to be beautiful... unique... and imaginative... the meanings behind them are wonderful.
• Dakota SummerRaven: Is also in the running for us, if we have another daughter, Dakota is also a tribal name of the Lakota people of South Dakota.

Dakota has always been more popular for boys than for girls (see Dakota (boy) for more info). American Actress Dakota Fanning boosted the popularity a bit for girls, and evened out the score. Dakota (and alternate spellings like Dacota, Dakotah, Dakoda etc.) hit its peak in the 1990s, and as of 2010 was #271 for boys and #297 for girls in the US top 7000 baby names.
